These lovely youngsters are 11 months old and have been hand-fed.
Tall and majestic, the emu belongs to a group of flightless running birds known as ratites, the most primitive of the modern bird families. The ratite family includes the kiwi, ostrich, cassowary, and rhea, all birds found only in the Southern Hemisphere. The emus grow to about 4′ at the body and 5’6″ to the beak.
Very easy to care for, they eat most plants and will tackle mice, frogs and other small creatures too! They will need shelter and fences about 4′ tall. They are very inquisitive and are funny and interesting to watch. They are better in twos or more as they need company.
